Granite Falls High School
Harmsen and Associates worked under the direction of Hutteball and Oremus Architecture on the new Granite Falls High School. This 133,000 square foot school stands two stories tall and was built to serve 800 students; it will have the potential to expand to serve 1200 students if needed. H&AI provided civil engineering for site grading, storm collection and treatment, sanitary sewer design, grease interceptor line, and fire loops. H&AI met frontage improvement requirements with new sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, as well as widening Burn Road for a new left turn lane.
In coordination with the School District, the City, and the County, H&AI designed a sound barrier using the excess dirt removed from the site. The barrier will be built on county land next to the school site to dampen road noise from a new bypass that will pass next to the school. The new school opened to students in January of 2008.
