Grading & Drainage
Nearly every development project requires consideration for storm water collection, control and treatment. The regulatory demands seem to increase on a geometric scale as our country's concern grows for the protection and enhancement of endangered species such as Coho salmon and bull trout. The use of the best stormwater management practices is required. Often a large portion of a project site is required to accommodate stormwater detention/retention to the exclusion of other uses that could provide a financial return to the developer. Unless properly designed, open ponds can often be eyesores and incur potential liabilities long into the future.
Our design team has recently completed a number of drainage projects where the drainage facilities have been designed in such a way as to allow multiple uses of the space.
Our multiple use spaces almost always qualify for inclusion in the open space requirement for the project. When placed in underground structures, the space above them can usually accommodate play courts, tot lots, parking or similar features. In one recent project in Snohomish County, we designed stormwater storage under the building.
Our Staff is qualified to provide the following drainage design services:
- hydraulic & hydrologic analysis
- drainage reports
- downstream analyses
- targeted drainage plans
- temporary erosion/sedimentation control plans
- stormwater retention facilities
- detention & infiltration facilities
- runoff treatment including biofiltration facilities
- basin analysis
- stream flow and flood plain analysis
- planting plan for aesthetic enhancement, sediment reduction, and erosion
